What are the benefits of using CLEO EPS Community?

CLEO EPS Community has been designed to enhance the prescribing capabilities of pharmacists within community pharmacy and protect those independent practitioners, especially for those that are newly qualified.

It offers real-time access to patient records and facilitates medication reviews and integrates those clinical decision support tools that are extremely helpful for pharmacists on the shop floor. It fits smoothly into existing workflows and reduces administrative burden, helping teams deliver timely, convenient care.

With CLEO EPS Community in place, prescribing became seamless and allows patients to move smoothly from consultation in the pharmacy to medication supply without unnecessary delays. The system’s integration with GP Connect and the NHS Spine ensures prescriptions can be created on site and dispensed immediately, improving accuracy, traceability and overall patient safety.

Richard saw the impact immediately after introducing CLEO EPS Community. In a busy pharmacy environment, having a solution that was intuitive, reliable and easy to use made a tangible difference. Prior to CLEO EPS Community, electronic prescribing simply wasn’t possible within the pharmacy.

Solutions
Focus on Richard Brown

Richard’s experience of using CLEO EPS CP within the Pathfinder project has been overwhelmingly positive. He would encourage other pharmacies to adopt electronic prescribing as an essential tool for advancing patient care and modernising pharmacy practice.

Richard believes that electronic prescribing is fundamental to the future of community pharmacy and unlocking the full potential of pharmacist prescribers. He sees it as a vital step in shifting same-day care - such as sore throats and other self-limiting conditions-  into community pharmacy, freeing up GPs to focus on long-term conditions. In his view, not enabling pharmacists to prescribe is a missed opportunity to better utilise a highly trained workforce.

This is critical because it maximizes the skills of pharmacists and means they can provide timely and effective care to patients. It also reduces the reliance on medical practitioners and GPs as it means the patient doesn’t need to go to them for every single prescription that they need.

Richard adds: “Without a prescribing service, we’re limiting the impact of highly trained professionals. It’s a massive missed opportunity if we’re not using pharmacists to prescribe.”

Dr Paul Perry, Medical Director at CLEO Systems says: “Independent prescribing in pharmacy is really important because it allows pharmacists to assess and to treat patients autonomously, which in itself enhances their role within the healthcare team within community pharmacy. As we are moving to Neighbourhood healthcare as part of the 10 year plan this represents an exciting opportunity to do just that – meaning patients can see their pharmacists as a first step and one stop shop.”
